“Joining the Free Agent Collective has given me access to the expertise, support, and encouragement I needed to create my business and keep it moving forward.” – Ann, content marketer
Being self-employed can be overwhelming
Those are just some of the questions you likely have on your mind. And you probably have many more.
And getting answers to those questions is the key to building your business. Because if you don’t know what you need to do, and how to do it, you are likely to fail.
And lots of people do fail. In fact, over 70% of self-employed businesses don’t make it past five years.
And the main reason they fail?
They don’t understand that self-employment is a journey—and a treacherous one—that takes a lot of time, learning, and effort.
It’s a journey of self-reflection and discovery that centers around learning everything you can about successfully growing your business.
Because if you don’t know enough about running a business, you likely aren’t going to make it.
So, how do you increase the chances that you’re one of the 30% that does make it?
You learn from an experienced guide who’s been there. Or several guides— that’s what the Free Agent Collective will give you.
“What I really like about the Free Agent Collective is the people, the community we have, the different types of experience people bring, the various questions we analyze, the sense of sharing and caring.” – Phil, graphic designer
Who we are
We are a group of Free Agents—self-employed professionals who have taken control of our careers and who take full responsibility for our own professional success.
Every week, we share our knowledge and expertise with each other to help us grow our businesses. From tightening our business model, to setting prices, to closing sales, to website design—we tackle all aspects of self-employment.
We do this by leveraging our own wide range of in-house expertise. We have members who specialize in:
• Accounting
• Content Marketing
• Graphic Design
• Information Technology
• Project Management
• Small Business Consulting
• Website Development
• Writing
… and more
And that’s just a sample. In addition, each member has their own general business experience that they also bring to the table.
But regardless of our industry, we are all on the same trek, and we have similar challenges. So we have come together to work as a team to help each of us take the right steps, find our footing, and keep going when we feel like turning back.
“You don’t climb mountains without a team.” Mark Udall
We’re in this together
We understand the struggles you are facing and the uncertainty you feel because we’ve been there.
Just like you, we’ve had to learn how to build a webpage, how to market our business, how to close sales, how to price our services…we’ve been through it all, most of it on our own.
And it’s because we understand the struggle that we decided to create a place where self-employed professionals could go to get the support, knowledge, and guidance they need to grow their business.
It’s a place where you can learn the ropes, chart your path, and be guided along the way by a supportive, knowledgeable team.
Each member of that team is committed to contributing their own individual expertise and experience to help guide you on your own successful self-employment path.
We share that expertise in three main ways.

How it works
We meet online every week. You can show up to as many or as few meetings as you like. But we know you will want to join us regularly, because each meeting is packed with business-changing advice.
In addition to standard topics such as marketing, sales, or website design, we also tackle unique, specific issues that our members face.
And we do it LIVE. You get real-time, on the spot, timely support from different perspectives.
You don’t have to wait for someone to answer an email, or comment on your post. You get helpful advice right away through in-depth discussions in which we thoroughly brainstorm your issue and provide you with alternatives, solutions, and encouragement.
Here are a few examples of issues we’ve recently helped our members solve.
How do I convince my client to listen to my advice?
“I have been hired by a client as a project manager, but they actually see me more as a project assistant (and I’m paid a lower fee than I know I’m worth). Furthermore, I know that the client’s chosen course of action is going to end in a “train wreck” for the company.
I’ve tried to educate the team, but they see me as “help”, not as a knowledgeable consultant. My words are falling on deaf ears.”
My estimate was way too low. Now what?
“I submitted an informal, rough, ballpark estimate to a client. There was almost 100% certainly they would hire me, so while I was waiting for them to get back to me, I did a bit of research to prepare for the actual job.
While doing that, I discovered the information I was going to need was not as readily available as either of us had thought. So my estimate was off—it was way too low.”
Should I work for free in exchange for “exposure”?
“I am trying to decide whether a certain client is worth my time. They want me to do some free work for them, an idea I’m not crazy about.
However, there is the chance that the particular work they want me to do will expose me to several other potentially high-paying clients.”
“The sharing of experiences is really valuable to me. I get to apprentice under other professionals and learn from their experiences.” – Isaac, videographer
